Virginia S. Mlakar

April 19, 1929 - April 11, 2022

Virginia S. Mlakar was born April 19, 1929, in Euclid, Ohio and lived a fulfilled life. She was raised in Euclid by her parents, Matthew and Stephanie Smith. Virginia was married for nearly 25 years to John Mlakar before he passed away in 1977. They found great joy raising their only daughter Debbie in Wickliffe. Virginia later enjoyed spending time with dear friend Dominic "Doc" Aveni. Virginia leaves behind daughter Debbie Ludvik (loving companion Robert Hawk) and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, brother and sisters-in-law and friends. Beloved son-in-law Jerry Ludvik is deceased. Becoming a teacher was a childhood dream, when she often "played school" with friends and cousins. Virginia graduated with degrees in Education: Bachelor of Science from Kent State University and years later a Master's from Lake Erie College. She was an endeared teacher to many students in Euclid and Wickliffe where she taught for 37 years. Virginia was proud to be a Martha Holden Jennings scholar. For years she was a dedicated member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Lake County Retired Teachers Association (LCRTA). She was raised Catholic by her loving parents and continued down that path for her remaining years at Mt. Carmel and St. Noel parishes. Virginia also enjoyed "giving back" by volunteering for the Development Team of Hospice of the Western Reserve and as a reading tutor through the Ohio Reads Tutor program in Painesville. Virginia had a busy social life with family and friends. Favorite pastime included golf, book club, bridge, pinochle, gambling, cinemas, live theater, dining out, cruises and traveling. Virginia passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on April 11 at Brookdale of Wickliffe, where she had resided for over one year. Special thanks to the to the caring staff of Brookdale and Hospice of the Western Reserve. She will be fondly missed by many for her caring and sweet nature, generosity, kindness and sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcomed to two fine organizations - Hospice of the Wester Reserve: 17876 St. Clair Ave, Cleveland OH 44110 and LCRTA: 7330 Holly Park Dr., Concord Twp. OH 44060. Friends will be received on Friday, April 29, 2022, from 4 to 8pm at Monreal Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd, Eastlake OH 44095. www.monreal.com, where a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 10am. Burial will follow the service at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
